Commenting on the Government's decision to retain profiles of innocent people on the DNA Database for six years, rather than the twelve years announced previously, Local Lib Dem campaigner Farid Ahmed said:

"This is yet another disgraceful decision from a Government keen to set up Big Brother Britain.

"Their new plans are little better than the last, hoarding innocent people's DNA in defiance of the courts.

"If they want the whole country to have fingerprints and DNA on record they should have the guts to say so. If not, they need to learn the difference between innocence and guilt, and learn it quickly."
