Committing the Liberal Democrats to invest an extra £2.5bn in schools, Nick Clegg will say that parents and schools must work together to make sure that children get the best possible start in life.

The mayor of London today announced huge hikes in bus and tube fares as well as a 25% rise in the congestion charge. While making the services more expensive the mayor will be reducing the services cutting the number of off-peak tube trains in outer London and scrapping plans to install step free access at six tube stations.

National independent polls have put the Labour party in third place nationally behind the Lib Dems. The independent Ipsos-Mori Poll puts the Lib Dems on 25% with Labour on 24%. For the first time since 1982 Labour is in third place.

The first Armed Forces Day was held on Saturday 27th June this year. Many people, young and old, took the opportunity to show their appreciation of the contribution made to society to those who have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces, by attending celebrations up and down the country.

The Liberal Democrats today launched a campaign for better pay for armed forces Personnel. With a third of the armed forces receiving less pay than a new recruit police constable or fire fighter. The Liberal Democrats propose to increase basic pay for the lowest earning troops by £150 per week increasing there hourly rate from the current £6.74 to £9.44.
