Brian Paddick selected to run for Mayor of London
Brian Paddick joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1976 and after four years 'on the beat' as a Constable he rose steadily through the ranks, serving in uniform as a community officer and a member of the riot squad, and as a detective, both at 'the front end' and at New Scotland Yard. Brian was responsible for developing 'Leadership Principles' for the police service, which he then put into practice achieving outstanding results. He retired from the Metropolitan Police Service on 31 May 2007 as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner and the highest ranking openly gay police officer in the UK. Through police scholarships, Brian studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the Queen's College, Oxford and has a Master of Business Administration degree from Warwick Business School. He also has a diploma in Policing and Applied Criminology from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. A thinking policeman, Brian was described by a panellist on BBC 'Any Questions?' as 'Descartes of Dock Green'! Brian Paddick is a Visiting Fellow of Ashridge Business School and speaks on leadership, change management and diversity. He is currently working on his autobiography and has been selected to run as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of London. Click to visit Brian Paddick's website.
